ERASMUS+ Europe-wide #
Erasmus+ is the European Union’s program for cross-border cooperation in various areas of general education. Erasmus+ Europe-wide allows students to study abroad at European partner universities.
Application #
The last application deadline ended in January 2025.
New applications for the academic year 2026/2027 should be planned for January 2026.
The Erasmus program is intended for students who are planning a study stay at an MNF partner university (including Switzerland). Applications are submitted online via an application form.
Please also inform yourself about the semester dates of the partner university, so that potential overlaps with the HU semester can be considered early and planned for accordingly.

Partner Universities #

Benefits for Students #
- Study abroad for 3-9 months (between July 1 of one year and September 30 of the following year) at a partner university of the Department of Geography.
- A mobility grant (Erasmus Grant) is paid, currently around €540 - €600/month depending on the host country.
- Exemption from tuition fees at the host institution.
- Academic recognition of study achievements made abroad.

Additional Funding #
Depending on the availability of funds, a Social Top-Up may be applied for at the HU International Office.
- Students with disabilities or chronic illnesses
- Study abroad with children
- First-generation students
- Students who work alongside their studies
- Additionally, there are limited funding opportunities for sustainable mobility.

Eligibility Requirements #
You apply through your faculty (MNF) for an exchange spot. Please note the specific application and selection criteria. Keep in mind that there is no guarantee of an exchange spot – allocation is competitive and follows the published selection criteria.

Recognition of Study Achievements #
After completing the study abroad program, the recognition of academic achievements made abroad is particularly important. The Erasmus coordinator, Kathrin Trommler, along with the study program advisors, will assist you in the preparation. The recognition itself is handled by the examination board.
