My name is Jamie Burton, and I’m a conservationist interested in more-than-human research; particularly concerning humans, livestock, and large carnivores. I am passionate about research that bridges the natural and social science. Namely, I will use methods from movement ecology, remote sensing, land-use science, and human geography, amongst others. Thus, my work is interdisciplinary by nature, and housed at the Geography Department and IRI-THESys (where I am always open to chat and to collaborate!). Coming from Europe, but researching in the dry forests of South America, it is important for me to contextualise my position there as a researcher; I am attempting to do this by engaging with critical social science approaches and discussing warmly amongst colleagues and friends. In short, I would like to conduct research that listens to local stakeholder as well as non-human perspectives, in attempt to better understand these actors, and potentially identifying suitable and alternative solutions to top-down approaches.
