I am a geographer interested in understanding the distribution of terrestrial ecosystems, their assembly processes, and response to human alteration. Often, I enter these topics from a satellite remote sensing perspective and combine this with statistical learning. Yet I enjoy the inherent multidisciplinary nature of biogeographic research, which encourages me to constantly explore themes and methods beyond my background in geography. Currently, I am intrigued by the coexistence of vastly different biotic communities – including entire biomes – under similar environmental conditions. In my PhD, I intend to contribute to our understanding of where and how, these diverse suites of ecosystems coexist within the tropic realm.
