Which conservation strategies balance conservation and other land uses?

We analyze trade-offs between conservation and other land uses, seek for potential conservation strategies, and assess conservation effectiveness.

This research theme focuses on conservation planning in land systems at different spatial scales. We evaluate whether past conservation interventions, such as protected areas, have been effective in reducing pressures on biodiversity. Our work seeks to provide a basis for conservation planning by exploring trade-offs between conservation and other land uses, such as agriculture. Finally, we focus on identifying key areas for potential future conservation interventions, such as new protected areas, corridors, reintroductions, or programs to foster coexistence of people and wildlife.
