The M.Sc. in Global Change Geography is a two-year master’s program. The first year consists of compulsory and elective modules. The second year features a modular structure with flexible, research-oriented specialization modules, allowing students to tailor the program to their individual interests and career goals. All courses are taught in English. More detailed module descriptions can be found in the study and examination regulations.

The elective area offers a wide range of specialization modules, enabling students to deepen their expertise and prepare for their master’s thesis. In Module 5, students choose between the modules Field Observation in Climatology and Hydrology and Earth Observation. In Modules 6, 7, and 8, students have the opportunity to freely choose from a variety of specialization modules. These modules provide advanced theoretical and methodological knowledge on scientifically and socially relevant topics in geography, such as sustainable development, climate change, natural resource management, conservation and biodiversity, as well as land-use changes. Additionally, students gain theoretical and practical knowledge of various modeling concepts with spatio-temporal data, including statistical and geostatistical methods, machine learning, agent-based modeling, system dynamics, programming, and satellite data analysis.
