QuidEx is a tool to visualize and explore quotations between a source text, for example, a literary work, and one or more target texts, for example, scholarly interpretations. The website consists of three main parts. On the very left is a heatmap that gives an overall impression of the literary work. The darker an area is shown, the more frequently it was cited. To the right is the source text. The font size indicates how often a passage is cited. The font color (gray scale) indicates how many target texts cite a passage.

For a more detailed examination of a passage, it can be selected. Then, at the bottom right, next to the source text, a list of target texts is displayed that cite part or all of the selected passage. Here, in turn, a specific quotation can be selected, which leads to the corresponding target text being displayed at the top right. In the source text as well as in the target text, the selected quotation is highlighted in color. The Segments Graph on the bottom right allows for further analysis of the structure of the selected passage.

Additionally, there are a number of other ways to explore the relationship between source and target text. For an overview of all features, see Overview.

To build passages, overlapping citations are combined into larger passages. To get a better understanding of the terminology and process, see Background.
